James Cavanaugh, Ph.D.

Dr. Cavanaugh has been a Managing Director of HealthCare Venture LLC since 1988. He was previously President of SmithKline & French Laboratories-U.S., the domestic pharmaceutical division of SmithKline Beckman Corporation. He had been President of SmithKline Beckman’s clinical laboratory business and President of Allergan International. Earlier, Dr. Cavanaugh served in numerous senior posts with the U.S. Government on the White House Staff and before that at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to that, he was a member of the faculty of the College of Medicine and the Graduate College at the University of Iowa. Dr. Cavanaugh serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Verenium Corporation (Chairman) and MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Arthur M. Feldman, M.D., Ph.D.
Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA
After receiving his B.A. degree from Gettysburg College, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Maryland, Dr. Feldman served as a post-doctoral fellow in physiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and then returned to Johns Hopkins where he served as an intern, resident and cardiology fellow. After joining the faculty in 1985, he was named the Director of the Belfer Laboratory for Molecular Biology of Heart Failure and the Director of the Heart Failure Research Program at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 1994, Dr. Feldman joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as the Harry S. Tack Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Cardiology, and Director of the Cardiovascular Institute of the UPMC Health System. In 2002, Dr. Feldman was named the Magee Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. He is a past President of the Heart Failure Society of America and of the Association of Professors of Cardiology. He was recently named the Editor-in-Chief of Clinical and Translational Science. He has received numerous honors including election to Alpha Omega Alpha, the Association of University Cardiologists, the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians. Dr. Feldman has chaired numerous multi-center clinical trials and his research in the molecular biology of heart failure has been published in over 200 peer-reviewed articles. In addition, he is the founder and a member of the Board of Directors of Cardiokine, Inc. Dr. Feldman lives in Wynnewood PA with his wife Susan and two daughters, Emily Kate and Elizabeth Willa.
Dov A. Goldstein, M.D.
Principal, Aisling Capital
Dr. Goldstein serves as a Principal of Aisling Capital. Previously, Dr. Goldstein was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Vicuron Pharmaceuticals up until its acquisition by Pfizer for $1.9 billion. While at Vicuron Pharmaceuticals, he raised over $250 million dollars in an IPO, PIPE, Follow-on, and block trade transactions. He led the valuation and finance due diligence for the merger with Biosearch Italia (Nuovo mercato: BIO.MI), the first US and Italian public to public company merger. He also ran the investor relations and press relations efforts for the company. Prior to Vicuron, Dr. Goldstein was Director of Venture Analysis at HealthCare Ventures. He also completed an internship in the Department of Medicine, at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Goldstein currently serves on the boards of ADMA Biologics, Inc, BioRelix, Inc, Cempra Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Esperion Therapeutics, Inc., and Topaz, Inc. Dr. Goldstein received his M.D. from Yale School of Medicine. He received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and he received his a B.S. with honors from Stanford University.
Stephen Knight, M.D.
Managing Partner, Fidelity Biosciences
Dr. Knight has worked in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries for over sixteen years. Prior to joining Fidelity in 2003, Dr. Knight was president and chief operating officer for EPIX Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For six years before joining EPIX, Dr. Knight worked at Arthur D. Little Inc., primarily as a senior consultant in Cambridge and Brussels, Belgium specializing in mergers and acquisitions in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to 1990, Dr. Knight performed research at AT&T Bell Laboratories (now Lucent Technologies), the National Institutes of Health, and at Yale University. Dr. Knight holds an M.D. from the Yale University School of Medicine and an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Organization and Management. Dr. Knight received a B.S. in biology from Columbia University, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Knight currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for EnVivo Pharmaceuticals. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (formerly Microbia), Cardiokine, Proteostasis Therapeutics, FoldRX, Bikam Pharmaceuticals, NextWave Pharmaceuticals, Ligocyte Pharmaceuticals and Respivert, Ltd.
Jan Leschly

Before founding Care Capital, Mr. Leschly was Chief Executive of SmithKline Beecham PLC from 1994 to 2000. He joined SB as Chairman of the Worldwide Pharmaceutical business in 1990 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1990. Before joining SB, Mr. Leschly served as President and COO, Squibb Corporation. He joined Squibb in 1979 as Vice President, Commercial Development and in 1984 he was elected Group Vice President and a Member of the Board of Directors with responsibility for the Worldwide Pharmaceuticals Products Group. Prior to this he worked for seven years with Novo Nordisk, where he served as Executive Vice President and President of the Pharmaceutical Division. Mr. Leschly is a member of the Boards of Directors of the American Express Company and the APM-Maersk Group. Before his business career, Mr. Leschly made his name in professional tennis, achieving the rank of 10th in the world in 1967. Born in Denmark, Mr. Leschly received a Master of Science in Pharmacy from the Copenhagen College of Pharmacy and a B.S. in Business Administration from the Copenhagen School of Economics and Business Administration.
Shahzad Malik, M.D.
General Partner, Advent Ventures
Dr. Malik joined Advent in 1999. He came with a strong grounding in science and clinical medicine. Prior to joining Advent he spent six years practicing medicine, before joining the London office of management consultants McKinsey & Company. Here he served international clients in the Healthcare and Investment Banking sectors.During his time with Advent he has been actively involved with numerous investments in Europe and the United States in the biopharmaceutical and medical device arenas. Shahzad gained an MA from Oxford University, and a MD from Cambridge University. He subsequently specialized in interventional cardiology, whilst also pursuing research interests in heart muscle disorders both in the clinic and basic science laboratory.
Amber Salzman, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Cardiokine, Inc.
Dr. Salzman currently serves as President and CEO of Cardiokine. Before joining Cardiokine, she was with GlaxoSmithKline for 25 years and as a member of the GSK R&D executive team she led Operations for Medicine Development, planning and managing drug development projects and clinical trials with over 30,000 active patients around the world. She established GSK's Development Support Center in India, improving the quality and cost of developing medicines. Concurrent with her role at GSK, she led and continues to lead the Stop ALD Foundation, driving research and development of cutting edge therapeutic technologies targeting Adrenoleukodystrophy. Dr. Salzman holds a Bachelor's degree from Temple University and PhD in Mathematics from Bryn Mawr College. Honors include being inducted into Temple University's League of Entrepreneurial Women Hall of Fame and other roles include being an Advisory Board member for the Dean of Drexel University School of Public Health.
Davey Scoon, C.P.A.

Davey S. Scoon, C.P.A., has been a director since December 2006. Mr. Scoon serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Tufts Health Plan, where he has been a director since 1981. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Nitromed, Inc., AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Inotek and as Chairman of the Board of Allianz Mutual Funds, an asset management company. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Scoon was Chief Administrative and Financial Officer of Tom's of Maine, a company that manufactures natural care products. From 2001 to 2003, Mr. Scoon served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer for Sun Life Financial U.S. and from 1999 to 2001; Mr. Scoon served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Sun Life Financial U.S. From 1985 to 1999, Mr. Scoon was employed by Liberty Funds Group of Boston (formerly Colonial Management) as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Scoon holds a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
